Weather Safety Workshop Announced

Jennifer Saari from the National Weather Service will host a weather safety workshop September 10th at the Northeast Alabama Community College Entrepreneurial Center. In conjunction with the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind, the event targets those populations, but the interactive event is open to any citizen.

Lasting from 11 am – 1 pm, the event will include hands-on experiments, refreshments, and sign-language interpreting. The Dekalb County Emergency Management Agency posted that they will be giving away free weather alert radios – first come, first serve. The campus is located at 246 McCurdy Avenue N. in Rainsville.

A weather radio event in 2012 sparked Saari’s interest in making sure everyone has access to important weather information. Her partnership with Bedarius Bell, Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS) Director of Special Programs, and others who work with the deaf and hard of hearing community make events such as these possible.
