School Lockdown Lifted After Investigation; No Threat Found

OHATCHEE, Ala. — The Ohatchee Police Department says a school lock down initiated earlier today has been lifted after authorities determined there is no confirmed threat.
According to a public notice released by the department, the school was placed on lock down out of an abundance of caution after a loud noise was reported. The sound was believed to have been either a vehicle backfire or a possible gunshot.
Officers responded and conducted an investigation. Police say no credible threat was identified.
Officials also confirmed that a previously scheduled softball tournament will continue as planned. However, there will be an increased police presence at the event as a precaution to help ensure the safety and security of players, families and attendees.
Police thanked the community for its patience and cooperation, adding that student and public safety remains a top priority.
