Just after 1 p.m. this afternoon, a Dodge Ram pickup truck plowed through the front doors of the Pic ‘n Sav Grocery in Centre. The vehicle took out 3 check out stations, injuring 2 employees. They were transported to Atrium Floyd Cherokee ER for treatment. The driver of the pickup and a passenger were shaken up, but did manage to walk out of the store. The male driver was taken to the ER for treatment. No customers were injured or involved in the situation.
According to a store employee, the female passenger had been in the store purchasing groceries before the incident happened. While in the store, she fell and was assisted by store employees in getting up. She then checked out and carried her merchandise out to the pickup truck. The store employee went out to check on the lady, while the male driver was putting the groceries into the vehicle. The employee then went back into returning to work when the truck crashed through the front doors. She said shelving stopped the truck.
Centre Fire and Police responded to help secure the scene along with Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Cherokee County EMA, Centre Building Inspector, and Atrium Floyd EMS.
Store management said the store is temporarily closed until they can clean up, check electrical wires pulled loose in the accident, make repairs and get everything back in place.
