Ballplay Bend Storm Shelter Now Ready for Use
BALLPLAY BEND – The Ballplay Bend Fire Department has announced that the community’s new storm shelter is now ready for use.
According to officials, a ramp and graded parking area for disabled access have been completed, with new signage designating parking spaces closest to the shelter. Additional seating has also been added inside.
Although a formal ceremony is planned in the coming weeks to officially open the shelter, Fire Department leaders say it is already available if needed. The shelter will be unlocked whenever a tornado watch or warning is issued for Etowah County.
The project was completed in just 78 days after the department received the award on July 1. Officials said many people worked hard to bring the shelter to reality for the community. It is located at the site of the old cotton gin.
