Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Attends National Crisis Intervention Conference
Last week, Mental Health Officer Greg Walker of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office represented the agency at the 2025 Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) International Conference in Anaheim, California.
During the conference, Officer Walker participated in a series of workshops and sessions focused on improving crisis response, officer wellness, de-escalation techniques, and fostering partnerships to better assist individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
The training was made possible through funding provided by the National Alliance on Mental Illness – Centre (NAMI). Sheriff Shaver expressed his gratitude to NAMI for their ongoing support, highlighting the importance of such programs in strengthening the department’s ability to respond effectively to those in crisis.
“Opportunities like this help our officers be better prepared to serve the community, particularly those facing mental health challenges,” Sheriff Shaver said.
