FERILL– One person was transported to an area hospital after a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck Wednesday morning, Nov. 4.
The accident occurred around 5:15 a.m. on Alabama Highway 9, at or near Cherokee County Road 51 near Ferill Baptist Church. Gaylesville Fire, the Cherokee County Rescue Squad, and Atrium Health Floyd EMS responded.
Crews removed one person from the car, and an ambulance then transported that person to a hospital. Meanwhile, the semi-truck caught fire, with reports describing it as fully involved.
Units later reported at 5:43 a.m. that they had knocked down the fire. However, no road reopening time was immediately available.
As crews worked at the scene, traffic backed up for an extended distance in both directions. Reports to WEIS and scanner traffic confirmed the backups along Highway 9.
