PIEDMONT– The Piedmont Fire Department has introduced a new fire truck that will soon become the department’s first-due pumper.
The new Deep South Fire Trucks pumper will replace Engine 1 as the first apparatus dispatched to many fires and emergency calls. It carries 1,500 gallons of water and features a pump capable of moving up to 1,500 gallons per minute.
In addition, the pumper sits on a new International chassis. Its water capacity and pumping power will provide Piedmont firefighters with important resources during structure fires, vehicle fires, and other emergencies.
However, the new apparatus is not ready for service just yet. The department said crews will add lettering and install the necessary firefighting equipment during the next several weeks. Once that work is complete, firefighters will prepare the truck to enter active service.
The Piedmont Fire Department credited a grant from U.S. Sen. Katie Britt with making the purchase possible. Department officials also thanked Piedmont’s previous mayor and City Council for allowing the department to apply for the grant.
Meanwhile, the department recognized the current mayor and council for supporting the purchase and the effort to strengthen fire protection in Piedmont.
As the first-due pumper, the new truck will play a central role in the department’s emergency response operations. Firefighters will use it to transport personnel, water, hoses, tools, and other equipment to emergency scenes.
The department described the truck as a significant addition to its fleet and an investment in serving Piedmont residents more effectively. Officials also invited community members to take a closer look if they see firefighters out with the new apparatus.
“It’s a sharp truck,” the department said while announcing its arrival.
