Piedmont police chief Nathan Johnson and fire chief Todd Kirkland updated the Piedmont City Council on their departments’ actions during their July 21st meeting.
Police Chief Johnson reported that his department made a total of thirty-four arrests, charging thirty-seven individuals with misdemeanors and five with a felony. Officers made 592 initiated contacts with the public, 360 extra patrols and checks, issued forty-four traffic citations, and worked eight traffic accidents.
Officers were dispatched on 341 calls for service. Of those calls, seventy-three resulted in a filed report. Officers patrolled a total of 6,891 miles during the month.
The dispatch office received 1,682 phone calls, dispatched 447 rescue calls (274 in/173 out), 109 fire calls, and fourteen after-hour utility calls. Court collections for the month of June 2026 were $8,258 while $3,956.50 was retained for the city of Piedmont.
Fire Chief Kirkland stated to the council that his department responded to 112 calls in the month of June. Only three were actual fire incidents, and another three were for a rescue. Most fire department calls were medical in nature. Of the seventy medical incidents, most were falls, unconscious victims, and chest pain. Sixteen fire department calls were labeled as public service, twelve were non-emergencies, and eight were called hazardous situations.
