
ROME — The Rome Police Department is honoring the retirement of Captain Roy Willingham, who is concluding a distinguished law enforcement career spanning more than 37 years of service.

Captain Willingham joined the Rome Police Department on May 15, 1989, following service in the United States Navy. Over the course of his career, he served in multiple divisions including Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Traffic Enforcement, Special Events, and accident investigation, while also taking on a range of leadership responsibilities within the department.
Throughout his tenure, Willingham was also involved in officer mentorship and training efforts, helping guide and support younger personnel. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and participated in various community leadership programs, representing the department in both professional and public-facing roles.
On Sunday, Willingham was formally presented with his retirement badge and service weapon, marking the conclusion of a career described by the department as one defined by dedication, professionalism, and long-standing commitment to the citizens of Rome.
A graduate of Model High School, Willingham rose through the ranks to become a respected leader, instructor, and mentor within the agency. Officials say his influence will continue to be felt within the department long after his final shift.
The Rome Police Department expressed its appreciation for his decades of service, leadership, and commitment to the community, and extended congratulations on his retirement.
