GADSDEN — The Gadsden Fire Department this week began comprehensive medical training for personnel across all shifts as part of its continued commitment to providing high-quality emergency medical care to residents and visitors throughout the city.
On Wednesday, the department’s “C” Shift began both Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training, with “A” Shift and “B” Shift personnel scheduled to complete training sessions throughout the remainder of the week.
Department officials said all firefighters are required to complete the training regardless of rank or certification level, ensuring every member of the department is prepared to respond effectively during medical emergencies.
The training is designed to reinforce both foundational and advanced emergency medical skills used in lifesaving situations.
Basic Life Support (BLS) focuses on essential emergency care techniques and includes instruction in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), airway management, and stabilizing patients until advanced medical personnel arrive.
Meanwhile, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) expands on those skills by preparing emergency responders to manage more critical medical situations. Training includes advanced airway procedures, cardiac rhythm interpretation, medication administration, and coordinated emergency treatment for patients experiencing cardiac arrest, stroke, and other life-threatening conditions.
Officials said the combined training helps ensure Gadsden firefighters remain equipped with both the knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to provide rapid, high-quality patient care when every second matters.
The department emphasized that ongoing education and preparedness remain a priority as firefighters continue to serve on the front lines of emergency response in the Gadsden community.
