Fire officials say the shelter represents an important milestone for the community, providing a safe haven during severe weather. The department expressed its gratitude to the Etowah County Commission for making the project possible. County Commissioners Johnny Grant, Shane Ellison, and Kevin Dollar attended the event to help celebrate the opening.

Before the ribbon was cut, Ballplay Bend Fire Department Lieutenant and Croft Ferry Baptist Church Pastor offered a prayer dedicating the new shelter.

The department also extended thanks to Hale Building for their excellent and timely work in completing the project, and to Greg with Pollard Plumbing for assisting by digging the trench for Alabama Power to connect the electrical meter.
