Gadsden Police Bike Unit Rides to Fight Childhood Cancer
GADSDEN, Ala. — The Gadsden Police Department is taking its commitment to service beyond the badge this September as members of its Bike Unit participate in the nationwide Great Cycle Challenge to fight childhood cancer.
The annual challenge raises awareness and funds for the Children’s Cancer Research Fund, supporting lifesaving treatments and research. According to the event’s organizers, cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among children in the United States. More than 15,700 children are diagnosed each year, and an average of 38 lose their battle every week.
“Kids should be living life, not fighting for it,” the challenge states — and that’s why Gadsden officers are riding. Every mile logged by the department’s Bike Unit contributes toward fundraising efforts to give children and families hope for brighter futures.
Community members are encouraged to get involved by donating through the department’s official challenge link, joining the team to ride throughout the month, or helping spread the word by sharing the campaign online.
The department emphasized that it does not handle donations directly. All contributions are securely processed through the Great Cycle Challenge platform and go straight to the Children’s Cancer Research Fund.
“Gadsden has always been a community that shows up for one another,” the department said in its announcement. “Let’s show these kids that our city rides with them.”
