Gadsden State Officer Completes EMT Certification, Strengthening Campus Safety
Gadsden- The Gadsden State Police and Public Safety Department is recognizing Part-Time Officer Blake Habyan for successfully completing the Basic EMT course through Gadsden State Community College’s Emergency Medical Services Program.
Officer Habyan, who also serves full-time as a firefighter with the City of Gadsden, received congratulations from Gadsden Fire Chief Vance Brown and Gadsden State Police Chief Jay Freeman. His new certification brings an additional layer of preparedness to the department, adding another medically trained officer to the team.
Habyan said the skills gained through the program will enhance his ability to serve in both roles, noting that having on-site medical training allows him to deliver immediate care in emergencies until EMS arrives — potentially improving patient outcomes and strengthening the college’s safety and emergency response capabilities.
Chief Freeman expressed appreciation to Chief Brown and the Gadsden Fire Department for their ongoing partnership and willingness to assist whenever needed.
The achievement, Freeman added, is a testament to the value of continued learning and interagency cooperation in keeping the community safe.
