Mary Ruth Wright Jelks was born March 5, 1934 to the late McKinley, Sr. and Mary Frances Covington Wright. She received Christ at an early age and united with St. Mary’s United Methodist Church. Mary Ruth was joined in holy matrimony to Frank Wilbur Jelks. She received her formal education in the Cherokee County school system.
Mary Ruth held several positions such as Church treasurer at St. Mary’s United Methodist Church, Communion Stuart, Lay Speaker. Member of the usher board, Choir member, President of the United Methodist Women, Treasurer of United Methodist Women and she worked in finance. She was also a member of Simmons Delight chapter of the Eastern Stars.
She is preceded in death by both parents, McKinley, Sr. and Mary Frances Wright, her husband, Frank Jelks; children, Fonda Jelks, Gregory Jelks, Ricky Hughes and Charles Jelks. Siblings, Maviola Wright, Jammie Earline Kennon, Bobbie Francis Henderson, Linda Williams, Donald Wright, Jimmy Wright, Clayton Wright, Fannie Wright and John C. Wright.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her children, Tyrone (Annette) Jelks, Vernon (Cescelie) Jelks, Patrick (Beverly) Jelks, Sandra (Don) Moore, Theressa Harris, Margie (Zack) Austin and Derryl Hughes. Siblings, Patricia Driver and McKinley Wright. Special granddaughter, Fanesha (Everett) Green and several other grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1PM Saturday, April 12, 2025 at St. Mary’s United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Cherokee Memory Gardens.
