From the ALABAMA LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY:

MONTGOMERY – On Wednesday, Feb. 12, Secretary of the Alabama Law
Enforcement Agency, Hal Taylor, joined Governor Kay Ivey, House Speaker
Nathaniel Ledbetter, Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger and other state and
local leaders to advocate and express support for Governor Ivey’s Safe Alabama
public safety package. The event was held at the Alabama State Capitol inside the
Old House Chamber.
Governor Ivey unveiled the public safety package during her recent State of the State
Address, which was held on Tuesday, Feb. 4
Following Wednesday’s event at the Capitol, ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor said, “I
would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Governor Ivey for her unwavering
commitment to the safety of our citizens and for championing this important package.
I also want to thank our legislators and other leaders for their continued support of
law enforcement as well as this initiative. Together, we are taking significant strides
toward a safer Alabama.”
He also highlighted and said, “The challenges we face to ensure we provide public
safety cannot be overstated. This package not only aims to effectively reduce and
combat gun violence but also strengthens the legal protections for the dedicated law

Additionally, the funding provision to hire additional officers for the Metro Area
Crime Suppression (MACS) Unit strengthens our capacity to reduce crime and
expand assistance to our local and federal partners.”
