Authorities have released the names of three, of the four people killed, in a barrage of automatic gunfire, in a mass shooting over the weekend, in a popular Birmingham entertainment district. Of those, police have identified three – Anitra Holloman, 21, Tahj Booker, 27 and Carlos McCain, age 27. The fourth victim hasn’t yet been formally identified at this point. It was just after 11:00pm Saturday, when Birmingham 9-1-1 Dispatchers received multiple calls of shots fired. A total of 17 others were reported injured after a hail of bullets was fired into a crowd – outside of the Hush lounge in Five Points South.
Hollomon, Booker and McCaine were all found to be unresponsive on the sidewalk – they were pronounced dead on the scene within moments. The victim whose identity has not been released died at the hospital.
Witnesses said that many of the victims were standing in line – outside of the lounge – when the bullets were fired. Fitzgerald said the surviving 17 victims, both male and female, sustained injuries ranging from non-life-threatening to critical. Police said that the shooters are believed to have used machine gun conversion devices. More than 100 shell casings were collected at the scene.
Chief Scott Thurmond said it appears one of the victims was targeted – a Murder-for-Hire – and the rest of the victims were collateral damage. No arrests have yet been announced and an investigation into the matter is on-going.
