The Floyd County Commission will reportedly be considering an – Urban Camping – ordinance tonight/Monday, during the regular meeting that’d make it illegal to camp on property in Floyd County that isn’t specifically designated for such, or without the permission of the owner.
That essentially mirrors the existing Rome ordinance, according to Floyd County Public Safety Director John Blalock, who helped guide ordinances through county government.
The “Commissioners Caucus” will be at 4:00pm, and the start time for the meeting is at 6:00, in the County Administration Building, 12 East Fourth Avenue. The county ordinance restricts all camping on both public – and private – property, without permission, unless it’s a designated camping area as well as allows officers to give people a warning and the chance to move along.
It also allows officers to confiscate property stored on public land.
Also, “New Business” contains a request from purchasing to approve the purchase and the upgrading of four Police Pursuit Ford Explorer vehicle models – from Family Ford – for the Floyd County Police Department, not to exceed $220,000.00 while using 2023 SPLOST funds, and one Forestry Bucket Truck from the Custom Truck One Source for Public Works – that, for a total of $197,100.
