Fyffe rebounds to take 42-10 region football win at Collinsville

COLLINSVILLE – The Collinsville Panthers debuted their new electronic scoreboard at home Friday night, but it was the Fyffe Red Devils who lit it up the most.

Fyffe scored 42 unanswered points through three quarters and took a 42-10 Class 3A Region 8 football win over the Panthers.

Ryder Gipson led the Red Devils (1-1, 1-0) with 187 yards on 13 carries with three touchdowns, but it was Fyffe’s passing game that put their first points on the board. Blake Dobbins connected with Simon Hicks for a 70-yard touchdown pass. Jesse Martin’s extra point put Fyffe up 7-0 with 7:05 remaining in the opening quarter.

Gipson scored his first touchdown on a 68-yard run with 3:17 to go in the first quarter, putting Fyffe up 14-0.

Gipson ran in for a 15-yard score to open the second-quarter scoring. Dobbins delivered a 22-yard touchdown pass to Hicks, then hit Everett DeBoard for a 51-yard scoring strike to give the Red Devils a 35-0 lead at halftime.

Gipson scored his final touchdown on a 73-yard run with 5:15 remaining in the third to push Fyffe’s lead to 42-0.

Collinsville (1-1, 0-1) finally put its first points on the board on Mason McAteer’s 4-yard run 46 seconds into the fourth quarter. Jan Segura’s extra point made it a 42-7 game. Segura connected on a 44-yard field goal with 4:12 remaining for the final.

McAteer led Collinsville with 90 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown. He was also 7 of 12 passing for 49 yards.

Collinsville hosts Whitesburg Christian on Friday.
