There was a whole lot of a shaking going on for area teams in this week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association high school football rankings. The latest poll was released early Wednesday morning.
Eight of the Class 4A preseason top 10 teams lost in their season openers last weekend, including the Cherokee County Warriors (0-1). They dropped a 34-27 decision to rival Piedmont on Friday.
With the loss, Cherokee County dropped two spots to No. 4.
Jackson remains at No. 1 in Class 4A following its 35-27 loss to Class 6A, No. 1 Saraland. Bibb County moved up from No. 4 to No. 2 following its 29-21 win over Chilton County. Pleasant Grove held steady at No. 3 after losing to Class 6A McAdory 38-35. Anniston, which did not play last week, moved up from No. 9 to No. 5.
In Class 3A, Piedmont (1-0) moved up a spot to No. 6, and in Class 1A, Spring Garden (1-0) also inched up a notch to No. 8 following its 41-7 win over Sand Rock (0-1) last Thursday.
Class 2A Cedar Bluff (0-1), which lost to Valley Head 34-13 on Friday, is still receiving votes. The Tigers host Collinsville (0-0) in this Friday’s Foothills Tractor Game of the Week.
