ROME– A man wanted in connection with a Rome teenager’s 2025 shooting death has been captured in North Carolina.

The Rome Police Department announced Thursday that 23-year-old Treveonsay Trejion Burge was taken into custody in Cleveland County.

Burge faces felony murder and aggravated assault charges in connection with the Oct. 21, 2025, shooting death of 18-year-old Adam Taylor Hernandez.

Police said Burge was being held without bond at the Cleveland County Detention Center in Shelby, North Carolina. He also faces additional charges stemming from his arrest.

The department did not identify those additional charges or announce when Burge could be returned to Georgia.

Burge had been the subject of a multiagency fugitive search. Authorities previously warned that he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Rome Police credited the U.S. Marshals Service, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and Shelby Police Department for helping apprehend Burge.

All charges are accusations. Burge is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
