Ms. Patsy Ann Young Baker

Ms. Patsy Ann Young Baker, age 93 of Centre, passed away on May 27, 2024.  Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Perry Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Barnett and Joel Nowak officiating.  Burial will follow in the Cherokee Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends from Noon until the hour of service.

Pallbearers include Michael Baker, Chris Baker, Dylan Baker, Ted Nowak, Sean Peek, Xavier Dekarske and Steve Baker. 

Honorary Pallbearers are Donnie Walker, Mark Flynt, Rev. Eugene Burgess and the Ralph Bates Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Methodist Church designated for the “Methodist Men’s Club Kids Coat Drive”.

Patsy, lovingly known as “Mimi”, is survived by a son, Randy (Michelle) Baker of Centre, a daughter, Kathy (Joe) Nowak of Centre, a brother Larry Young; 6 grandchildren; Michael (Kim) Baker, Chris Baker, Amy Baker, Taylor (Sean) Peek, Joel (Somer) Nowak and Ted Nowak.   9 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, W.H. (Billy) Baker, her parents W.A. and Iva Young, a brother Lloyd Young, a sister, Tommie Boatfield and nephews Steve and Tim Young.

She was a member of Centre First Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and served on other various committees.  She was an active member of the Ralph Bates Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Baker was a native of Cherokee County and worked for the Cherokee County Board of Education for 29 years.  Affectionately known as “Miss Patsy” she served as the Secretary for Centre Elementary School (CES).  In this role, she wore many hats such as secretary, bookkeeper, nurse, storekeeper, banker, counselor and friend.  She served as a mentor not only to her co-workers but to hundreds of children that walked the halls of CES.  She was loved by all.

Of all the jobs that she had, her most precious job was taking care of all of her children and loving her title as “Mimi”.
