The Cedar Bluff Tigers continued to climb the Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 1A baseball rankings this week. After entering the poll at No. 10 last week, the Tigers (16-11) moved up three spots to No. 7 in the final rankings of the season.

The latest poll was released early Thursday morning.

Cedar Bluff is scheduled to begin the Class 1A state playoffs on Friday at No. 10 Lynn (14-6), with a doubleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m. A third game if necessary is Saturday at 11 a.m.

Two other ranked area baseball teams are in first-round playoff action this weekend. Class 3A, No. 1 Piedmont (20-11) hosts Sylvania (9-15) on Thursday in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. An if-necessary game is Friday at 5 p.m.

Class 2A, No. 5 Collinsville (23-5), down a spot in this week’s poll, hosts Altamont (8-8) in a playoff doubleheader on Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m. A third game if necessary is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.

Class 4A Cherokee County (17-11) and Class 1As Gaylesville (13-13) and Spring Garden (8-14) continued to receive nominations.

There were no changes in this week’s poll for area softball teams. Spring Garden (17-8) and Piedmont (15-6) continue to be ranked at Nos. 5 and 6 respectively. Cherokee County (24-4) continues to be nominated.
