Autopsy to be Performed on Slain Murder Suspect in Georgia

The GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation) Says an Autopsy Will Be Performed on Murder Suspect Shot by Law Enforcement

The GBI has stated that an autopsy will be performed on the body of John Wayne Siffles, who was recently shot, and was killed, by law enforcement officials in Summerville.   The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Chattooga County after a request from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.

On Sunday, December 24th (2023), police were attempting to apprehend a suspect in a murder investigation.   John Wayne Siffles, 44 of Summerville, Georgia, was wanted in the death of a woman whose body was found in Chattoogaville (Georgia), earlier in the day.  Preliminary information indicates that the Lookout Mountain Drug Task Force, the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, and also Summerville Police, executed a search warrant on Siffles’ home – located in the 400 block of Highland Avenue, Summerville, Georgia.

When agents entered the home, they saw Siffles with a knife, and he was given numerous verbal commands to drop the knife, and police deployed a Taser.  Siffles refused to drop the knife and charged the agents with the the weapon – and, as a result was shot multiple times.  He received immediate medical care – and then taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.  The GBI Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy on Siffles and the GBI will conduct an independent investigation.

When the investigation has been completed – that case will then be given to the Chattooga County District Attorney’s Office for review.
