An Albertville high school football player died in a car accident early Monday morning. The 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Marshall County Coroner’s office, which responded to the single car crash at about 7:00am.
Albertville City Schools spokesperson, Miranda Humphrey, said in a statement issued later that same day “Our entire system is deeply saddened by this loss. Our thoughts and our prayers are with the student’s family during this incredibly difficult time. We extend our heartfelt condolences and support to them,” and the statement didn’t release the student’s name, but did say the student was a member of the football team.
Humphrey said the school is providing counselors, and support services, at the high school to help students responding to the loss.
The crash happened at the 2500 block of Alabama Highway 205 North in Albertville, and Albertville Police are investigating.
The Albertville Police Department said the name of the student could not be released. Information about a memorial service is not yet available.
