Amison earns first win as Cedar Bluff boys head basketball coach

CEDAR BLUFF – Johnny Amison’s first basketball win as head coach of the Cedar Bluff boys was a memorable one. The home-standing Tigers held off Cleburne County in overtime 59-51.

Bucky Leek led Cedar Bluff (1-0) with a game-high 24 points. He was 9-of-10 at the free-throw line and connected on three 3-pointers. Eli McFry earned 13 points. Kade Browning and Caleb Tucker finished with seven and six points respectively.

Greg Freeman topped Cleburne County with 15 points. Dawson Haynes sank three treys and finished with 14 points. Jackson Miller managed nine points. Nate Adams and Rico Huguley had seven and six points respectively. Huguley’s points came on a pair of 2-pointers.

Cleburne County led 7-6 at the end of the first quarter, but Cedar Bluff charged out in front 20-16 at halftime. Cedar Bluff held a 31-28 advantage after three quarters before Cleburne County came back. The score was tied at 45 at the end of regulation.

Cedar Bluff closed out the game on a 14-6 run in the extra period for the final.

In girls action, Cedar Bluff earned a 54-39 victory.

Kylie Vadon collected 22 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Caley Bruce added 14 points. Hayden Cannon and Za’niya Kyle both finished with eight points. Cannon had a pair of 3-pointers.

Faith Brown led Cleburne County with a game-high 26 points, including three treys. Makinzie Frames finished with five points.

Cedar Bluff (1-0) led at each of the quarter breaks. The Lady Tigers held an 18-15 advantage at the end of the first quarter and a 31-19 edge at halftime. Cedar Bluff extended its lead to 40-19 after three quarters.

Both Cedar Bluff squads travel to Woodville on Nov. 28.
