Gadsden Man Arrested on Drug and Gun Charges / Bond Set at $1.2 Million

A Gadsden man is currently being held on bond of more than a million dollars after his arrest on Tuesday on various drug and gun charges.

Roderick Lewis Barnes, age 42, was taken into custody following the drug raid at 608 Randall Street in Gadsden.  

Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit Captain Josh Morgan stated the raid followed an investigation into the sale of methamphetamine, Ecstasy pills and marijuana; that investigation spanned a period ten months.  The raid at that home turned up around a pound and a half of meth, a large quantity of Ecstasy and a quantity of marijuana, as well as six guns.

The lengthy probe was carried out by the Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit, the Gadsden Police Department, Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, the Etowah County Joint Special Operations Group and North Alabama FBI Criminal Enterprise Task Force.

Barnes was charged with two counts of trafficking methamphetamine and a count of trafficking illegal drugs, nine counts of unlawful distribution of controlled substance, one count of unlawful distribution of marijuana, unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of a pistol by a violent felon.

Barnes pleaded guilty in 2008 to drug distribution and received an eleven-year suspended sentence.

The investigation is on-going and additional federal charges could be filed.  His bond stands at $1.2 million.
