HUNTSVILLE – The Spring Garden Lady Panthers swept their way past Ider and Lexington at the Class 2A Volleyball North Super Regional at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville on Wednesday.
The Lady Panthers opened tournament play with a 25-11, 25-7, 25-21 victory over Ider, then clinched a berth in next week’s state tournament in Birmingham with a 25-18, 25-10, 25-13 win over Lexington.
In the win over Ider, Suzie Carter collected 12 kills, three blocks and an ace. Neely Welsh added 11 kills, two blocks and an ace. Alle Jennings posted 13 kills. Abbey Steward contributed 38 assists, three aces and a kill.
Aubrey Sadler came away with two kills. Layla Ingram had a kill, and Timi Scoggin finished with an ace.
Against Lexington, Welsh delivered 17 kills, three aces, two blocks, a dig and an assist. Carter contributed 12 kills and a block. Steward posted 36 assists, a kill, a dig and an ace.
Jennings added nine kills. Sadler tallied four kills. Ingram managed two assists, and Bri Boles finished with a dig and an ace.
Spring Garden takes on Hatton on Thursday at 12:45 p.m. in the regional semifinal. Hatton also swept its way past Westminster Christian and Lamar County on Wednesday.
