The Alabama Department of Public Health, and Health Officials, are urging the public to be vaccinated against COVID in a bid to curb the spread of the virus – and they also encourage those who’ve yet to be fully immunized, to consider the fact if you contract a case of COVID-19 after receiving the vaccine, your symptoms will likely be a lot less severe.
New data was released on Tuesday (September 21st), regarding the number of those who have been immunized across Alabama.
In Cherokee County – with a population of 25,853 – 8,528 people have been partially immunized; that’s 32.99% and 6,917 fully immunized, or 26.76%.
In DeKalb County, population 71,200 – 54,491 partially immunized, or 47.24% and a total of 43,271 fully immunized or 37.59%.
Etowah County, with a population of 102,939 has 43,646 partially immunized – that’s 42.40% and 34,124 fully immunized, which is 33.15%
Calhoun County, which has a population of 115,098 currently has 54,491 people that are partially immunized or 47.24% and 43,271 fully immunized for a total of 37.59%
Health officials say newly released data is bringing into focus more clearly than ever, the extreme importance of being fully vaccinated – for the first time since the winter virus surge, Alabama is now reporting more than 100 COVID-19 deaths per day.
Results from the Alabama Department of Public Health indicate the state’s seven-day average for newly reported deaths reached 106 on Tuesday – the highest mark since February 8th; the all-time high was 154 deaths reported per day January 29th.
Bear in mind, there is an average of around two weeks between when a death occurs, and when it is reported to the ADPH.
Health officials say newly reported deaths could be just the beginning – as the state is starting to understand just how deadly the delta variant really was – and continues to be.
Our neighbors in northwest Georgia are experiencing somewhat similar numbers.

Floyd County reported four COVID-19 deaths Tuesday. And, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health – 248 Floyd County residents have lost their lives to the virus since the start of the pandemic.
Floyd County also reported 77 new positive tests on Monday for a total of 14,551 and Chattooga County had 16 new cases and three deaths; statewide across Georgia there were 6,190 confirmed cases from Monday to Tuesday with 138 confirmed deaths.
