CENTRE – Cherokee County High School senior Slade Alexander had himself a game against visiting Springville on Friday night.

It took almost all of Alexander’s effort to capture the win against the Tigers (1-1).

After Alexander gave the Warriors the early lead with his pick-6 in the first quarter, Springville tied the game at 7 on a 4-yard run in the second. Alexander took to the air for the next Warrior score – a 5-yard touchdown pass to Conner Elrod – to put the Warriors back out in front 14-7.

Springville countered to tie the game at 14 on 76-yard touchdown pass to tie the game again at 14, but Alexander gave the Warriors a 21-14 halftime advantage with his 35-yard run.

The Warriors appeared as if they would pull away in the third quarter after Alexander scored again on an 18-yard run to stretch the lead to 28-14, but the Tigers clawed their way back within a touchdown on a 34-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to make the score 28-21.

Alexander put the Warriors back up by two scores again at 35-21 on a 20-yard touchdown pass to Whit Johnson, who led the Warrior receivers with six catches for 67 yards. Alexander then ran in for a two-yard score to give Cherokee County a 42-21 advantage, but the Tigers wouldn’t quit.

Two touchdown passes of 31 and 25 yards pulled Springville within a touchdown again at 42-35, but then a Damien Ramsey 47-yard touchdown run pushed the Warriors out in front 49-35. Ramsey finished with 150 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown.

Springville scored again on a 3-yard run to bring the Tigers within eight at 49-41, but Alexander capped off his night with a 47-yard touchdown run for the final.
