Senator Andrew Jones Announces $106,000 In Local Classroom Grants

Public school teachers in Senate District 10 have a new opportunity to obtain help paying for classroom supplies and projects. State Senator Andrew Jones (R, Centre) announced that he has secured education funding which he will use to provide mini-grants to local educators. Teachers may apply for up to $100 in mini-grant funding, with a total of $106,000 available throughout Senate District 10. These grants may be used for classroom supplies, books, teaching materials, software, and the like.

“Our local educators are extremely dedicated,” said Jones. “Many of them use their personal money to provide classroom supplies or fund classroom projects. While the legislature was able to give teachers a 4% pay raise this year, we must continue to do more to honor the hard work and time our educators put in. My hope is that these mini grants will serve to support our teachers as they provide for their classrooms. I am thrilled to be able to bring this money back to Etowah, Cherokee, and DeKalb Counties.”

All public schools located within Etowah and Cherokee Counties, as well as Collinsville and Crossville Schools in DeKalb County, are eligible for the mini-grants. Grant awards are limited to 20 per K-12 school or Career Tech School and 10 per Alternative School.

All classroom teachers, librarians, and education staff are encouraged to ask their school principal for an application. Applications are due by August 20th, with grant checks to be awarded later in the fall. Teachers who have any questions about the mini-grant applications are invited to call Senator Jones’ office at (334) 261-0857.
