On Monday night (May 6, 2019) at approximately 11 pm, DeKalb County Drug Task Force Agents seized Methamphetamine, Handguns, and Cash after a traffic stop near Kilpatrick.

Agents attempted to stop a vehicle near the intersection of Highway 68 and County Road 479 when the vehicle accelerated to a high rate of speed.

Agents were able to stop the vehicle just inside Marshall County. After a search of the vehicle, agents recovered approximately 15 grams of methamphetamine. There were also handguns recovered, along with burglary tools and debit/credit cards belonging to several different people.

An undisclosed amount of U.S. Currency was also seized in the stop, along with various items of drug paraphernalia.

Richard Anderson (30 of Boaz) and Joshua Pettus (41 of Albertville) were arrested and charged with Possession with intent to Distribute – Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Burglar’s Tools.

Anderson was also charged with Fleeing/Attempt to Elude. Both remain in the DeKalb County Detention Center.

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said of the arrests: “I applaud our Drug Task Force Agents for putting in the hard work to keep more drugs from being sold in our county. Our guys work it from one end of the county to the other.”

“These guys relentlessly pursue those who sell this poison in our county. We hope to do our part to limit access to this dangerous drug,” he said.
