Boaz Police Arrest A Gadsden Man For Electronic Solicitation Of a Child

On Friday Boaz Police Department Investigators and Patrol Officers arrested Byron James Bresett, 31, of Gadsden. Bresett was arrested just before midnight and charged with electronic solicitation of a child. This is a class B felony.

Investigators were notified on Thursday about messages that had been sent to a 14 year old female, in which Bresett offered money in exchange for sex. The messages were first sent through a mobile app “LETGO.” Communication then continued through standard text. The 14 year old victim notified her parents and law enforcement immediately once she received the messages. Through coordination with the Marshall County District Attorney’s Office, Investigator Barry Maddux, worked around the clock on the case until an arrest was made.

On the night of the arrest, Bresett thought he was meeting with the 14 year old victim in Gadsden. Instead he was met by Investigator Maddux and Officers from the Boaz Police Department. Gadsden Police also assisted on scene with the arrest. Bresett tried to run on foot from the officers, but was quickly caught and placed under arrest.

Boaz Police Chief Josh Gaskin stated in a news release “Investigator Maddux did an excellent job on this case and was determined to make certain that Bresett was taken off of the streets. Maddux used the help of every division in the department to make the arrest. We had communications officers and corrections officers that were willing to help with surveillance when needed. Everyone came together to close this case as quickly as possible. The victim in the case did exactly what we would encourage anyone else to do in a situation such as this.”

Bresett has been transported to the Marshall Co Jail. His bond has been set at $250,000.

More charges could be forthcoming for Bresett as the case remains under investigation.
