Mr. Robert Louie Samples

June 15, 1943 – June 30, 2026

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Millie Samples, brothers, Larry, Jimmy, Jackie, Kenneth and sister, Betty Carol.  He was also preceded in death by his in-laws , JD and Lorene Renfroe.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce Renfroe Samples, daughters Robin (Mikey) Brothers, Jana (Michael) Abney, son, Scott (Tabitha) Samples, grandchildren, Andrew, Ethan, Sara (Nick), Sadie, Tyler (Amber), Kaeley (Nathan) and Tyler Keith, and great-grandchild, Lex.

He is survived by his brothers, Curtis (Katie) and Richard (Mary), sister, Louise, sister-in-law Charlene and numerous nieces and nephews, and beloved friends.

Robert was a 1961 graduate of Berry High School for Boys in Rome, GA, and a 1965 graduate of Berry College, where he was a member of the “Berry Boys” that he maintained a close relationship with through all these years. He was a charter member of Black Creek Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as chaplain for many years. He was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church, where he had served as Sunday School Director, Training Union Director, sang in the choir, and served with the children’s ministry. He retired from the state of Alabama, where he taught school and was a counselor at Gadsden Group Home.

 

Robert was a beloved member of his community and was a father figure to many. His life was a living example of his favorite Bible verse, Micah 6:8, and the Berry College motto, “Not to be ministered unto, but to minister.” He happily served those around him with love and kindness, and walked with the Lord every day.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 2nd at Black Creek Baptist Church from 3pm to 5pm with service and interment to follow at 5pm.

Services will be conducted by Brother Gary Cardwell and Brother Don Hutton.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to Black Creek Volunteer Fire Department or Black Creek Baptist Church Children’s Ministry.
