Motorist Issued A Citation For Driving Through An Accident Scene In Cedar Bluff

Emergency crews responded to a report of a three vehicle accident on Highway 9 North in Cedar Bluff on Saturday morning.

According to reports a utility truck was traveling towards Centre when it lost its trailer which traveled across an oncoming lane of traffic coming to a stop off of the road way.

The driver of the truck was unaware that the trailer had come loose and continued on.

A second vehicle managed to stop before hitting the trailer, while a third vehicle swerved to miss the second running off of the road into a brushy area.

Fortunately there was very little damage to any of the vehicles and there were no injuries reported.

As wrecker crews were attempting to retrieve one of the vehicles, Cedar Bluff Firefighters had traffic stopped for a brief period of time when a driver took it upon himself to continue to through the closed section of road narrowly missing three firefighters.

The fire department reminds motorists that it is unlawful to disobey an officer or fireman when they are directing and/or stopping traffic as outlined in Section 32-5A-4 of the Alabama Code.

The Cedar Bluff Fire Department issued the following statement:

“It never fails that we have someone who thinks their time is more important than everyone else’s and doesn’t think that what we are doing applies to them. If we are directing traffic it is imperative that you remain vigilant to your surroundings and the orders you are given, but if we have traffic stopped it is for the safety of the crews working on scene and yours as well.”

“We don’t particularly like standing in the middle of the road holding you up any more than you like waiting on traffic. The safety of our fireman and the other emergency crews on scene is more important to us than whatever you had scheduled for the day and we will enforce whatever laws we can if you decide to break them.”

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver was issued a traffic citation.
