Oprah Winfrey’s longtime boyfriend Stedman Graham says she “would absolutely” run for president

NBC/Paul Drinkwater(LOS ANGELES) — After saying for months that she would not run for president — or for that matter, public office — Oprah Winfrey may now be changing her tune.

Following her rousing and poignant speech at the 75th Golden Globes on Sunday night, a number of celebrities and luminaries called for Oprah to launch a campaign for 2020. Even Oprah’s longtime boyfriend, Stedman Graham, admitted President Oprah may be a possibility.

“It’s up to the people,” Graham told the Los Angeles Times. “She would absolutely do it.”

Actress Meryl Streep also gave Winfrey her endorsement on Sunday night and said that her speech seemed pretty much like an official presidential bid.

“She launched a rocket tonight. I want her to run for president,” Streep told The Washington Post. “I don’t think she had any intention [of declaring]. But now she doesn’t have a choice.”

Meanwhile, CNN reports that sources close to Oprah say that she is “actively thinking” about running for president.

However, Oprah has repeatedly denied any intentions of running for president, telling The Hollywood Reporter in June, “I will never run for public office. That’s a pretty definitive thing.”

She later reiterated her sentiments in October, telling CBS This Morning, “There will be no running for office of any kind for me.”
