Roy Moore’s campaign remains defiant amid sexual misconduct allegations

In a press conference outside of the Alabama GOP headquarters in Birmingham Wednesday afternoon, Moore’s attorney Phillip Jauregui and Moore’s campaign chairman Bill Armistead stood by the candidate and challenged the story of one of Moore’s accusers, Beverly Young Nelson.

Speaking to reporters, Jauregui said that Moore and Beverly Young Nelson — had contact after the date of her allegation. Jauregui pointed out that Moore presided over Nelson’s divorce proceeding in 1999.

Jauregui also called for the release of Nelson’s high school yearbook, which she claimed Moore had signed, so that handwriting analysis of a signature purportedly belonging to Moore can be done. Jauregui seemed to argue that the signature could have been copied from Moore’s signature on a paper from the 1999 divorce proceeding — in part due to the letters “D.A.” that follow Moore’s name in a photo of the signature.

Shortly after the press conference, AL.com published a story with a two more women accusing Moore of sexual misconduct.
