“Jigsaw” puts together $16.25 million debut to top the weekend box office

Brooke Palmer (LOS ANGELES) — Jigsaw scared up an estimated $16.25 million in its debut, a little shy of expectations but enough to top the weekend box office. Overseas, the eighth film in the Saw franchise earned $9.5 million.

In second place was Boo 2! A Madea Halloween. The Tyler Perry film grabbed an estimated $10 million, bringing its two week total to $35 million.

Third place belonged to Geostorm, earning an estimated $5.67 million. Happy Death Day took fourth place with an estimated $5 million weekend. Its total earnings stateside now stand at $48.3 million.

Blade Runner 2049 rounded out the top five, earning an estimated $3.9 million. That brings its domestic earnings to $81.3 million. Internationally, the film picked up another $49.3 million, bringing its worldwide totals to more than $136 million.

Elsewhere in the top 10, Thank You for Your Service, starring Miles Teller, took in just a disappointing $3.7 million for a sixth place finish. Way down at number nine was Suburbicon, earning a dismal $2.8 million. It marked George Clooney’s worst opening as a director and the worst showing for star Matt Damon, behind 2000’s All the Pretty Horses.
