Minor injuries reported after four train cars derail in Washington state

Moodboard/Thinkstock(STEILACOOM, Wash.) — Parts of an Amtrak passenger train derailed near Pierce County in Washington state on Sunday.

Only minor injuries have been reported, according to the Pierce County Sherriff’s Office. The train was carrying 267 passengers.

Amtrak said the four train cars derailed around 2:30 p.m., ABC affiliate KOMO-TV reported.  

The waterfront derailment of the Amtrak Cascades train took place near the town of Steilacoom. The train runs between Vancouver, Canada, and Eugene-Springfield, Oregon.

There have been no reports on the cause of the derailment.
