rruntsch/iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — A report from the American Society of Civil Engineers on Thursday gives American infrastructure a D+ grade, and says that the proposed trillion dollars in funding would be insufficient.
The ASCE puts out an infrastructure report every four years. In their last report, U.S. infrastructure also received a D+ grade. This year, ASCE says that the country’s aviation infrastructure received a D, its bridges a C+, roads and dams each received a D and transit infrastructure got a D-.
Engineers say each American family is losing $9 per day in lost economic impact.
In order to improve its infrastructure, ASCE says, the U.S. must spent $2 trillion.
A Department of Transportation spokesperson responded to the report by saying that the department “remains committed to working with the White House to rebuild our nation’s aging transportation systems by leveraging new advanced technologies, utilizing innovative finance solutions and streamlining processes to make improvements as quickly as possible.”
