White House Won't 'Defend or Criticize' FBI Director James Comey

Win McNamee/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) — The White House has said it will remain neutral on the FBI’s investigation of newly discovered emails connected to Hillary Clinton’s private server, spokesman Josh Earnest said in a press conference Monday.

Earnest said he will neither “defend nor criticize” what FBI Director James Comey has decided to make public and that the White House will continue to be “scrupulous” in “avoiding even appearance of interference.”

The president doesn’t believe Comey is intentionally trying to influence the outcome of the election, Earnest added.

In the press conference, Earnest defended Comey as a man of “integrity” and “good character.”
