Very few things are more frightening than being in need of legal help – and not being able to afford it.

Fortunately, there are options; unfortunately, most people don’t realize that.

Local attorney Marcie Foster, who is trying to raise awareness that help may be available to those in need, was recently honored by Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law for her Pro Bono work.

The Volunteer Lawyers Program is run by the Alabama Bar Association, and there are steps you must first take in order to be considered for assistance.  You must first contact the bar – you’ll then go fill out a questionnaire to determine eligibility which includes certain income   guidelines and should you qualify they will attempt to match you with a lawyer specializing in your particular area of need.

Foster pointed out, that, in many cases, the solution is actually a fairly simple matter for the attorney to handle:

Each case is unique – and those possible solutions vary greatly.  Bear in mind, qualified legal counsel is the first step in sorting things out.  Through the Volunteer Lawyers Program, you can take that all-important first step in regaining control of your life, regardless of income.
