Chief David Davis of the Fort Payne Police Department stated in a press release that a vehicle fatality occurred at 6:45 pm Thursday night on Gault Ave North near 2nd Street North.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 78 year-old Patricia Weaver of Collinsville. Weaver was driving a 2004 Toyota Highlander traveling south when her vehicle left the roadway after striking a parked vehicle, traveled across the north bound lane, and came to rest up against a store front.

When first responders arrived, the driver was unresponsive, life-saving measures were attempted on scene. The driver was transported to Dekalb Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased. It is believed a medical episode was the cause of the accident.
