Italian Town Sues "Charlie Hebdo" over Depictions of Quake Victims

iStock/Thinkstock(ROME) — The central Italian town that was destroyed by an earthquake last month is suing a French satirical newspaper for its depiction of quake victims.

Amatrice filed a criminal defamation case against Charlie Hebdo. The paper depicted the victims of the earthquake as different pasta dishes — one of a bloodied man as “penne with tomato sauce.” It also showed bodies in layers of rubble as lasagna.

The cartoons are a macabre send-up of spaghetti all’Amatriciana, a dish named after the earthquake-hit town.
