One Dead After Being Ejected from Vehicle in Monday Accident

One person is dead following a traffic accident in north Rome on Monday evening.

According to a Rome Police Department accident report, an older model Jeep was traveling on Calhoun Avenue between 10:00 and 11:00pm, when the driver, identified as 44-year old Paul Barton of Rome, lost control on the wet road while trying to turn left onto North Broad

Barton told officers that the Jeep began to hydroplane, and started to spin out of control. He overcorrected and the vehicle struck the curb causing it to come up on two wheels before it crashed back down on all four; at that time a passenger in the front seat 62-year old Johnny Lee Lindsey of Rome, was ejected.

Lindsey was pronounced dead in the emergency room at a local hospital.

Barton and a passenger sitting in the back seat were not hurt.
