Highway 9 near the Dixie Youth Baseball Fields was shut down for an extended period of time on Monday afternoon after a pickup truck hauling a 26 gallon tank of fuel on a utility trailer lost the load with the tank catching fire.
The incident occurred just before 11:00 a.m. with Centre Police and Firefighters quickly responding to the scene. Firefighters swiftly extinguished the blaze which caused some damage to the asphalt on the highway.
It is not known exactly what caused the tank to come loose or what exactly caused the fire, fortunately no one was injured during the incident.
The situation remains under investigation.
