Aderholt was invited to Gadsden State so he could see firsthand how students are being prepared for the 21st century workforce, from business and skilled trades to emergency medical service and nursing. Lavender and other members of the GSCC Cabinet also reviewed new program development with Aderholt.

“Gadsden State has over 70 affordable and accessible programs to over 8,000
students every year, but we want to grow,” Lavender said. “We want to move forward.”

Aderholt visited the Physical Science, Microbiology, Biological Science and Cadaver labs in Browder Hall and toured Inzer Hall and Allen Hall on the Wallace Drive Campus. He also was able to take a driving tour around the East Broad Street Campus and stop in for a look at Gadsden State’s new One Stop Center, which is slated to open in mid-June.

“It’s important that he has an understanding of some of the services and programs we provide in his district,” Lavender said. “We wanted him to see some of our long-range plans for improving our infrastructure so that we can provide even more programs for our students. Our priority is to work with our communities to help students fulfill their hopes and dreams by putting them on a successful career path.”

Aderholt has not been to Gadsden State Community College for several years and said it was good to be back. “I enjoyed hearing Dr. Lavender’s vision for Gadsden State,” he said. “It’s a vision that is needed; that will lead to success. I intend to work with her to see what we can do from a federal standpoint to help Gadsden State. The College is not only important to Etowah County. It has a high level of importance in Northeast Alabama.”
