PLEASANT VALLEY – A day after stunning top-ranked Pleasant Valley in the Class 2A, Area 13 softball tournament, the Sand Rock Lady Wildcats had to face the Lady Raiders again for the area championship on Tuesday.
Things got off to a good start for the Lady Wildcats. They scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, but Pleasant Valley pulled away for a 14-4 victory in six innings, forcing the if-necessary game.
The Lady Raiders won that one too by the final of 8-4.
Both teams advance to the East Regional at Albertville’s Sand Mountain Park and will play on Monday at 9 a.m.
In the first game against Pleasant Valley on Tuesday, Aubie Camp led the Lady Wildcats at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a run. Macy Martin added a hit, a run and a RBI. Alyvia McMichen went 1-for-3 with a RBI. Taylyn Warren was 1-for-3 with a run. Raven Todd also finished 1-for-3. Emma Sipsy walked and scored a run.
Kinzlee Peek pitched an inning and allowed two earned runs on a pair of hits with a walk. Sipsy worked 4 1/3 innings and gave up three earned runs on nine hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
In the second game, the Lady Wildcats once again took an early lead with a run in the top of the first inning, but Pleasant Valley answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first, two more in the second, two in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Aliyah King led Sand Rock at the plate by going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs. 4 McMichen went 2-for-3 with a run and a RBI. Camp and Molly Grace Lay were both 1-for-3 with a RBI.
Martin tossed four innings and gave up six earned runs on seven hits with three walks and a strikeout. Sipsy worked two innings of three-hit ball with two earned runs, a walk and a strikeout.
Pleasant Valley began the day by eliminating Cedar Bluff by the final of 6-1.
