Update: Forestry Crews Still on Scene of 400 Acre Fire Near Glencoe

Forestry Commission Crews on still on scene fighting a fire near the Glencoe, Wellington, and Webster’s Chapel area. The fire was burning in a rural area near the Etowah and Calhoun County lines.

This is an update to a story we published earlier this morning that you can see here:

We spoke with a spokesperson with the Media Team with the Alabama Forestry Commission and learned that the fire consumed around 400 Acres. The last reports had the fire at 150 acres.

The fire is considered contained at this point. Contained means that a perimeter has been established around the fire. That firefighters have a control line built around the fire, but does not tell how active a fire still is.

We learned that the Forestry Commission was first called out to the wildfire on Sunday evening, and has had personal on the scene continuously since. They have been able to protect structures and no injuries have been reported.

Smoke from the fire has traveled as far as into areas of Georgia, but is expected to rise and dissipate some as temperatures rise during the day.  We will continue to monitor this situation, and update if any new information becomes available.
