Gadsden State to host homecoming

GADSDEN, AL – Gadsden State Community College is gearing up for a Homecoming celebration on Feb. 13 with a variety of events for students, alumni and the community. The highlight will be a doubleheader basketball game against Calhoun Community College with the women’s game tipping off at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s game to follow in Beck Gymnasium.
The theme for the 2025 Homecoming is “Let’s Glow Cardinals!”
“Homecoming this year promises plenty of fun, flair and school spirit,” said Lynn Patterson, director of Student Activities. “We’re excited to see everyone’s Cardinal spirit as we ‘glow’ into Homecoming.”
Each day during Homecoming Week, there will be themed Dress-up Days for employees and students:
* Feb. 10 – Beach Day
* Feb. 11 – Western Day
* Feb. 12 – Decade Day
* Feb. 13 – GSCC Spirit Day
Costume Parades will be held at noon each day in the Cardinal Café on the Wallace Drive Campus.
“This gives students and employees the chance to show off their creative side,” Patterson said. “We always have a lot of fun during Dress up Days.”
A tailgate party with food and games will be open to the public from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Beck Conference Center. There is no charge to attend, and everyone is invited for the pre-game celebration.
At 5:30 p.m., the Gadsden State Alumni Association is hosting an alumni reception in the Beck Conference Center.
“This is a special gathering for alumni to take a few minutes to connect before the basketball games,” said Hillary Folsom, director of Advancement and Alumni Relations.
In addition to the tailgate party and alumni reception, the Gadsden State Show Band will perform from 4:45 p.m. until tip-off in the Beck Gymnasium. Homecoming royalty will be crowned during halftime of the women’s basketball games. Students will vote for Homecoming King and Queen beginning Feb. 3 via their student accounts.
At the conclusion of the women’s game, three awards will be presented by the Gadsden State Alumni Association: Distinguished Alumni of the Year, Emerging Alumni of the Year and Outstanding Faculty/Staff Alumni of the Year.
“We are so excited to welcome back alumni for an evening of networking and reminiscing while honoring the outstanding contributions of our alumni,” Folsom said. “Homecoming is a perfect way to bring the Gadsden State family together.”
During halftime of the men’s game, Student Activities will host a Glow Party and Dance. It is open to everyone and will take place on the floor of the gymnasium. Glow-in-the-dark items will be distributed to participants.
