Multi-Vehicle Accident with Fatality and Multiple Injuries

The accident occurred at 11:19 am Monday involving an 18 wheel truck, hauling sand, and several other vehicles at 1855 Highway 68 west near the Cherokee and DeKalb County line.  According to the report, one victim was entrapped and others required medical attention.

Cherokee County Rescue Squad responded to assist with extrication. Sand Rock Fire and Leesburg fire responded with Atrium Floyd EMS, and Alabama State Troopers.

Highway 68 was shut down for 3 hours with detours on highway 176 and county road 3.

The accident is under investigation by ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division.
